An insight into the plans of new Real Madrid head coach José Mourinho to make use of the talents of summer signing Bernardo Silva has come to the fore online.
This comes amid the understanding that the 31-year-old will take to the pitch, at least initially, in a deep-lying role.
Midfielder Bernardo of course made the call to link up with Real Madrid earlier this summer. Following the expiration of his contract terms with Manchester City, the former Monaco man turned down offers from several other leading clubs to take his talents to Spain’s capital.
With so many differing profiles and positional options in Los Blancos’ engine room ranks, it had until now been largely unclear where Bernardo would actually line out in the colours of his new employers this season.
But as alluded to above, this weekend, precisely as much has been revealed. The info comes courtesy of Real Madrid insider Jose Felix Diaz of Diario AS, who reports:
‘Mourinho believes that, alongside Aurélien Tchouaméni, he can be responsible for shaping the team’s attacking play. The idea of Bernardo distributing the ball and playing from a deeper position was on the table before the team’s preseason even began.’
The Portuguese international, it appears, will be made use of in a two-man pivot, as one of the first names in Real Madrid’s starting XI.
