‘He’s very important now’ – Carlo Ancelotti confirms Real Madrid youngster will stay with first-team

Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti has confirmed that defender Raúl Asencio is set to play an ‘important’ role for his side over the weeks and months ahead.

This comes after the 21-year-old shone across his debut appearance for the club this afternoon.

Real of course marked their return to action a short time ago, welcoming Osasuna to Spain’s capital for a La Liga clash.

And, en route to an eventual 4-0 Blancos triumph, the aforementioned Asencio played a surprisingly prominent role.

After Éder Militão was stretchered off with what appeared to be a serious knee injury, the Real Madrid Castilla standout was introduced in his place.

And, safe to say, Asencio went on to enjoy a senior bow to remember.

Impressing on both sides of the ball, the highlight of the young defender’s performance came during the first-half, when he split the visitors’ backline wide open to lay on a perfect assist for Jude Bellingham.

Speaking to the media post-match, it therefore came as little surprise when boss Carlo Ancelotti was full of praise for his defensive starlet.

Amid an injury crisis at the heart of Los Merengues’ backline, the club’s headmaster confirmed that Asencio should now be considered a full-time first-team player:

“Raúl Asencio is a very important player for us now. We have to thank Raúl for his good job with the Castilla.

“Another good centre-back is Jacobo Ramón but he’s injured. Raúl Asencio will stay with us now.”
