‘He hasn’t earned it’ – Barcelona warned against move for key transfer target

La Liga giants Barcelona have this week come in for something of a warning, regarding their ongoing pursuit of Manchester United star Marcus Rashford.

Wide-man Rashford has of course seen his name return to the spotlight in Catalunya’s capital over the last couple of weeks.

This comes after Barcelona were forced to re-open their search for reinforcements in the final third, owing to Nico Williams’ shock rejection.

The Englishman is known to be on the way out of Old Trafford this summer, considered a potential market opportunity on the part of those behind the scenes at the Camp Nou as a result.

One individual, however, of the opinion that Rashford has ‘not earned’ such a high-profile move, is ex-Man United star Teddy Sheringham.

Speaking to Sky Sports this week, one-time goalscorer Sheringham was drawn on Rashford’s impending Old Trafford exit, and went on to explain:

“If you assess where Marcus Rashford is as a professional footballer, you strive as a youngster to reach the top and play for clubs like Manchester United.

“When you get there, you should appreciate it.

“You don’t just throw it away and say you want to leave. I find the whole episode soul-destroying. Back in my day, players dreamed of this kind of opportunity.

“To hear Rashford talking like this reminds me of when Aubameyang forced his way out of Arsenal, and I didn’t like that either.

“From my perspective, going from Manchester United to Barcelona is a step up that Rashford hasn’t earned.”
