Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick was eager to bring Blaugrana star Pedri to Germany, during his time in charge of Bundesliga heavyweights Bayern Munich.
That’s according to ex-Barca sporting director Ramon Planes, who early this week provided an insight into the situation.
During an appearance on Carrusel Deportivo, as cited by Mundo Deportivo, Planes opened up on a phone call he received from Pedri’s representative back in 2020.
This came after contact was forthcoming on the part of the aforementioned Bayern, before the midfielder had even linked up with his new teammates at the Camp Nou:
“After the 2-8 in Lisbon, two days later, I received a call from Pedri’s agent because Hansi Flick’s Bayern Munich wanted him. I had a video call with the club. I was very surprised, because he hadn’t even come to Barça. We had signed him but he was on loan at Las Palmas.”
Pedri, in the end, stayed put in Catalunya’s capital, with Flick having finally been afforded the chance to oversee the Spanish international’s talents upon being named Barcelona manager last summer.
And what a partnership the pair have since conjured up, with Pedri in the midst of arguably the very best season of his career to date.
