Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick has spoken out on the possibility of the Blaugrana bringing in a new defender before the summer is out.
This, of course, comes fresh off Barca’s headmaster being forced to bid farewell to a key member of his backline over the weekend.
In something of a bolt from the blue, Iñigo Martínez informed the Camp Nou brass of his intention to head to the Middle East, in the face of an offer from Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al-Nassr.
Deco and co, in turn, quickly sanctioned a contract termination for the 34-year-old.
Just a week out from the new Spanish campaign being kicked into gear, Barcelona, all of a sudden, have therefore been left looking somewhat short at the back.
Speaking to the media on the back of his side’s Joan Gamper Trophy victory over Como on Sunday, it therefore came as little surprise when the subject of potential reinforcements was put to the aforementioned Hansi Flick.
The German tactician, however, urged those of a Blaugrana persuasion not to get their hopes up regarding as much, in responding:
“I don’t think we will sign a new centre back to replace Inigo Martínez. I will talk to Deco soon.”
