Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick has thrown a deal for one of the club’s leading summer transfer targets into disarray.
This comes amid the understanding that the German is no longer fully behind a move for Alessandro Bastoni.
The name of defender Bastoni has of course dominated the headlines in Catalunya’s capital for several months now.
Amid an ongoing search for reinforcements at the heart of defence, the Barcelona brass earmarked the Italian international as the ideal addition.
Bastoni, based on all of age, technical qualities and defensive nous, was considered the perfect fit.
Safe to say, then, that the latest word stemming from the Spotify Camp Nou will no doubt come as a source of surprise.
As per a report from transfer market insider Matteo Moretto, Hansi Flick has requested that Deco seek out alternative profiles:
‘The main ‘obstacle’ to Alessandro Bastoni’s signing by Barcelona is Hansi Flick’s stance. As the months have passed, the German coach has expressed growing doubts about some of the Inter defender’s technical characteristics in relation to the team’s current and future playing style. Deco has been paving the way for months, but now Flick could derail the signing. Barça knows perfectly well all the economic conditions to sign Bastoni, but Flick is asking Deco to explore other avenues as well.’
