Hansi Flick expressed a ‘great interest’ in Bayer Leverkusen star during Barcelona talks

Incoming Barcelona manager Hansi Flick made clear his interest in the signing of a headline member of the midfield ranks at Bayer Leverkusen, during his recent talks with the club.

That’s according to Bar Canaletes, who have today provided an insight into the situation.

Flick, for his part, is of course set to be unveiled as the latest instillation on the Barcelona bench over the days ahead.

As much comes with the German having been lined up as the successor to Xavi, whose dismissal from his place on the touchline in Catalunya’s capital was made official on Friday.

During Flick’s sit-down with Barca sporting director Deco to talk through the imminent joining of forces between the parties, a whole host of topics are understood to have been discussed.

And one such subject came in the form of transfer plans for the summer ahead.

Flick will no doubt be eager to add to the Blaugrana squad at his disposal for next season, aware of the enormity of the task which awaits in keeping pace with Real Madrid.

And one player whose name did not take long in being brought to the fore by the German comes in the form of Exequiel Palacios.

That’s according to the aforementioned Bar Canaletes, who have revealed that Flick ‘expressed a great interest’ in having Palacios amongst his ranks.

The Argentinian international has played a pivotal role for the record-breaking Bayer Leverkusen in Germany this season, on his way to six goals and five assists in 36 appearances across all competitions.

Of the opinion that Barcelona’s midfield is in need of upgrading, Flick, in turn, considers Palacios the ideal profile.
