Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick has provided an insight into the reasoning behind his decision to haul both Marcus Rashford and Pedri off during the club’s most recent outing.
Barcelona were of course back in action on Wednesday night.
In the headline fixture of the Champions League gameweek, the Blaugrana welcomed tournament holders Paris Saint-Germain to Catalunya’s capital.
The aforementioned Rashford and Pedri, meanwhile, were afforded respective places in Hansi Flick’s XI for the clash.
En route to an eventual 2-1 defeat, however, both were hooked from proceedings during the 2nd-half.
With as much having come with the scoreline locked at a goal apiece, and Barcelona in search of a winner, the hosts’ headmaster was therefore drawn on his selection call by the media post-match.
And Flick went on to explain:
“I think in the second half you could see the fatigue of a large number of players, and that’s why we tried to take care of Pedri and Marcus.”
