Why Dani Olmo was dropped to the bench for Barcelona vs Real Sociedad

Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick has provided an insight into the reasoning behind his call to drop Dani Olmo to the bench for the club’s latest outing.

Barcelona were of course back in action on Sunday evening.

Eyeing a place atop the table in Spain’s top-flight, the Blaugrana welcomed Real Sociedad to Catalunya’s capital.

And en route to precisely that, the aforementioned Dani Olmo was forced to watch on from the bench from the get-go.

In a major surprise on the part of Hansi Flick, Barca’s headmaster opted to afford a start to 17-year-old Pedro ‘Dro’ Fernández against Sociedad, in place of the far more experienced Olmo.

Speaking to the media post-match, the subject of as much was in turn put to Flick himself.

And, with Fermín López sidelined through injury, the German tactician went on to explain:

“Dani Olmo didn’t have any physical problems. We wanted to rest him for PSG.”
