Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick was left nothing short of delighted by the contributions of an oft-overlooked member of his squad this season.
That’s according to Mundo Deportivo, who point towards Eric García as the player in question.
Defender Eric has for his part of course played an increasingly prominent role in Catalunya’s capital over recent weeks.
After Jules Koundé was condemned to a spell on the sidelines with a hamstring injury, the versatile Eric was tasked with filling in at right-back in Barcelona’s squad.
And the former Manchester City man has since gone on to do a thoroughly impressive job of as much.
After previously lining out in both midfield and central defence under the watch of new boss Hansi Flick this season, Eric took to the full-back role like a duck to water, shining on his way to crucial goals against the likes of Real Madrid and Inter Milan.
And as alluded to above, one individual on whom such consistent excellence has not gone at all overlooked is the Spaniard’s manager.
As per a report from MD:
‘At center-back, Barça must decide what to do with Eric García, whose contract expires in 2026. Flick is especially happy with the Catalan, who has performed very well as a center-back, pivot, and full-back.’
The expectation, in turn, is that Eric will imminently be rewarded with a new-and-improved Barcelona contract.
