Hansi Flick ‘did not like’ one piece of Barcelona summer transfer business

Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick was left hugely disappointed with one piece of summer transfer business carried out by the club’s board.

The decision in question? That to allow Iñigo Martínez to depart.

Veteran stopper Iñigo of course brought a close to his time on the books of Barcelona late in the summer window.

This came after the Blaugrana agreed to terminate the remaining year of his contract as a sign of good will, to allow the Spaniard one final big-money pay day in Saudi Arabia.

Safe to say, however, that the move has since backfired on the reigning La Liga champions.

Iñigo’s presence, both from a leadership and technical standpoint, has been sorely missed at the heart of Barcelona’s backline.

Without the 34-year-old, the Catalans have struggled badly in efforts to implement their offside trap, looking a lacklustre defensive unit over the early months of the term.

In turn, it should not come as much of a surprise to learn of Hansi Flick’s feelings regarding Iñigo’s exit.

As per a report from Diario Sport:

‘Although he has never said it in public, Flick did not like the departure of Iñigo Martínez, the leader of the defense and a fundamental player in the defensive system last season.’
