Hansi Flick critical of Barcelona players after Newcastle draw

Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick was quick to admit his disappointment with the performance put forth by his players against Newcastle United post-match on Tuesday.

This comes fresh off an underwhelming night all told for the Blaugrana.

The Spanish champions of course marked their return to action a short time ago, making the trip to England for a Champions League meeting with Newcastle United.

Deep into injury time, Barca found themselves trailing by a goal to nil, firmly headed for a concerning defeat.

After Dani Olmo won a last-gasp penalty, though, Lamine Yamal stepped up to slot home an all-important equaliser with the last kick of the game.

This ensured that the Catalans will head into next week’s return leg confident in their chances of advancing.

As alluded to above, though, left disappointed nonetheless following the full-time whistle on Tyneside was Hansi Flick.

Speaking to the media in the aftermath of his side’s 1-1 stalemate, Barcelona’s headmaster admitted:

“With the ball, we didn’t put in a good performance. We lost a lot of possession and made simple mistakes, and that’s usually what Newcastle wants.

“We weren’t good, but we took advantage of the opportunity we got.”
