Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick considers only one member of his central defensive ranks to be a guaranteed starter at present.
That’s according to Mundo Deportivo, who point towards Pau Cubarsí as the player in question.
Youngster Cubarsí of course formed one half of Barcelona’s first-choice central defensive pairing last season.
The surprise summer exit of Iñigo Martínez, however, has opened the door to an all-out battle for places at the heart of the Blaugrana’s backline.
As per a report from MD:
‘The only untouchable player for the Barça manager right now is Cubarsí.’
Beyond the young Spaniard, all of Ronald Araújo, Andreas Christensen and Eric García are currently battling for one place.
This past weekend, it was the latter who was given the nod against Valencia.
It is Araújo, though, who is considered the favourite to feature from the off in Barcelona’s Champions League opener against Newcastle United.
