Hansi Flick blocks 4 Barcelona youngsters from travelling for Intercontinental Cup

Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick has made the call not to allow four young members of his squad to depart to play their respective parts in the upcoming Intercontinental Cup.

That’s according to Diario Sport, who have on Monday provided an insight into the situation.

Barcelona for their part secured qualification for this year’s Intercontinental Cup courtesy of their triumph in the UEFA Youth League in 2024/25.

The Blaugrana are now primed to lock horns with their U20 counterparts at Brazilian outfit Flamengo in the Maracana showcase.

As alluded to above, though, in efforts to bring the title back to Catalunya’s capital Juliano Belletti will be forced to make do without a number of Barca’s standout young talents.

As per a report from from Sport, it was proposed to Hansi Flick that the quartet of Pedro ‘Dro’ Fernández, Guille Fernández, Toni Fernández and Jofre Torrents – all of whom have spent recent weeks playing their trade at senior level – travel to play their part in Rio this coming weekend.

The German, however, made clear that as much is simply not an option.

This comes with Barcelona’s first-team already short on options owing to registration problems, ahead of their own clash with Levante on Saturday.
