Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick refused to rule out a current member of the club’s defensive ranks pushing his way into a starting role before the season is out.
The player in question? João Cancelo.
Full-back Cancelo is for his part fresh off a starring performance in the colours of Barcelona on Sunday.
Afforded a rare starting berth following his winter loan arrival in the Blaugrana’s La Liga meeting with Levante, the Portuguese shone bright from his berth at left-back.
Cancelo provided a reminder of his stellar abilities in the final third, notching an assist en route to securing Man of the Match honours at the Spotify Camp Nou.
Speaking to the media post-match, Hansi Flick was therefore drawn on the possibility of the former Manchester City standout carving out a regular starting berth for himself in Barca’s backline.
And the German tactician refused to rule as much out, in responding:
“Cancelo? He was good. We’ll see if he ends up becoming a starter. I also want to see a good attitude in training, and that can help us a lot.”
