Haaland & two more top signings: Barcelona’s ‘plan’ to convince Xavi to stay

An insight into the plans of those in a position of power at La Liga giants Barcelona to convince head coach Xavi to stay put has been provided in the early hours of Tuesday.

The info comes courtesy of Mundo Deportivo, and points towards Barca’s work on the transfer front as being the key to potentially persuading their beloved headmaster to remain.

It is of course common knowledge that both Blaugrana president Joan Laporta and vice president Rafa Yuste are eager for Xavi to see out the next year of his contract at the Camp Nou.

As much comes despite the former midfielder having reiterated time and again since announcing his intention to depart in the summer that he will not go back on his decision.

Safe to say, then, that it will likely take something special to convince Xavi of the merits of continuing his journey on the Barca bench.

And something special, it would appear, is precisely what the Catalans have in mind.

As per the aforementioned MD, Joan Laporta intends to promise Xavi two headline additions to his squad with a view to next season.

The players in question would likely come in the form of ‘a midfielder and an interior’.

The leading candidates to fill these roles? For the former, Barca’s boss would demand one of Joshua Kimmich, or Martín Zubimendi. The key target for the latter, meanwhile, comes in the form of Manchester City standout Bernardo Silva.

In the case of as much proving enough to extend Xavi’s stint into next season, attentions in 2025 would then turn towards an all-out assault on another Man City star, namely Erling Haaland.

With the tactician’s contract terms featuring the option for an extra year, Laporta is hopeful that the prospect of taking charge of one of world football’s very best strikers would prove too much for Xavi to turn down.
