Girona’s Miguel Gutiérrez speaks out on potential Real Madrid return

Girona defender Miguel Gutiérrez has provided his take on the prospect of securing a return to his former employers, in Real Madrid.

Gutiérrez, for his part, secured a permanent departure from Spain’s capital back in the summer of 2022.

After managing nine La Liga appearances in the colours of Los Blancos, the left-back opted for pastures new in a bid to rack up more consistent playing time.

And, to his credit, Gutiérrez has since gone on to manage precisely that.

After managing 34 league appearances last time out, the 22-year-old has proven an integral member of Girona’s backline this season, too, featuring from the off in all but one of the club’s outings amid a shock push for the La Liga title.

And yet, the prospect of a potential return to the aforementioned Real Madrid looms large.

Los Merengues maintain 50% of Gutiérrez’s playing rights, meaning a deal similar to that struck for Fran García during the summer could be sought out for the Spanish youth international at some point down the line, too.

If the latest comments on the part of Gutiérrez himself are anything to go by, however, then, for the time being at least, he has no interest in such a move.

Speaking in an interview with Marca this week, the Fábrica product was drawn on the possibility of reuniting with Real in the future.

Gutiérrez, though, instead made use of the opportunity to reiterate his commitment to the Girona cause.

“I don’t like to talk about the future since in football there are no plans. I focus on the day to day, I am happy at Girona, the group is spectacular and I only think about working with this team, having a great year and we have a good squad to achieve it.”
