Girona’s Donny van de Beek facing a minimum of 6 months out of action

La Liga outfit Girona have on Friday confirmed the extent of the absence awaiting midfield star Donny van de Beek.

As much comes after the Dutchman suffered a serious injury earlier this week.

Van de Beek was for his part afforded his first start of the new campaign on Tuesday night, when Girona battled their way to a point at Athletic Club.

During the first-half, however, the former Manchester United man went to ground in evident distress.

Van de Beek was subsequently hauled off, with manager Míchel having admitted in the game’s aftermath that the injury looked a serious one.

And following an ensuing round of medical tests, precisely as much was confirmed.

The midfielder, it was revealed on Thursday, suffered ‘a complete rupture of the Achilles tendon in his left leg’.

Van de Beek, in turn, was forced under the knife.

And as per a follow-up statement released by the Catalans on Friday, the expectation is that he will be out of action for ‘a minimum of six months’ as a result.
