Girona eyeing January deal for Barcelona star

La Liga outfit Girona have set sights on an audacious winter swoop for a member of the midfield ranks at Catalan rivals Barcelona.

That’s according to journalist Nil Sola, who highlights Marc Bernal as the player in the sights of the brass at the Estadi Montilivi.

Youngster Bernal has of course endured something of a difficult campaign to date.

Since returning to fitness following a year on the sidelines with an ACL injury, the 18-year-old has been used sparingly by manager Hansi Flick.

Such struggles have given rise to mounting speculation that, under the right circumstances, Bernal could be allowed to leave in January, on a temporary basis.

And as alluded to above, should Barcelona ultimately open the door to as much, waiting in the wings will be neighbours Girona.

As per a report from the aforementioned Nil Sola, speaking during an appearance on ESport3:

“One of the players that the club (Girona) would really like, and who is an option, is Marc Bernal.”
