A fresh twist has been noted in the saga surrounding the future of Atlético Madrid star Julián Alvarez on Thursday evening.
This comes amid the understanding that the brass at the Metropolitano, all of a sudden, have changed their stance regarding the potential sale of their star attacker.
As per a report from Mundo Deportivo, confirming information first gathered by ‘AtleticoPlay’:
‘Following the Argentine striker’s expressed desire, both publicly and internally, to leave Atlético, the club’s management has agreed to enter into transfer negotiations.’
This sudden shift, however, features one major caveat: Atlético will under no circumstances open the door to Alvarez joining La Liga rivals Barcelona. Instead, the Rojiblancos are ready to sit down with Premier League champions Arsenal, who maintain a strong interest in bringing the 26-year-old back to England before the summer is out.
Alvarez, for his part, has made clear that he has no desire to link up with Mikel Arteta’s Gunners, with Barcelona remaining his one and only desired landing spot.
