Franck Kessié out with a muscle injury

Barcelona defeated Viktoria Plzeň 4-2 away from home in the Czech Republic in their final match of the Champions League group stages.

However, Franck Kessié had to be substituted after picking up an injury during the match. Tests carried out by the club’s medical staff confirmed that the Ivorian international injured his biceps femoris in his left leg, report Marca.

The Blaugrana did not announce how long Kessié will be sidelined for, but the news will not be welcomed by Xavi, who wants to have his whole squad at his disposal to finish strong in La Liga before the international break for the World Cup.

Nonetheless, both Frenkie de Jong and Sergio Busquets are fit to play and can play in Kessié’s position. Xavi can also call upon the services of Marc Casadó, who made his debut for the senior side midweek.

Barcelona were knocked out of the Champions League and will be playing in the Europa League come this spring.
