Former Barcelona star Fernández the latest to criticise João Félix: “Fight for the ball”

Ex-Barcelona star Abelardo Fernández has today joined the growing list of individuals to have taken aim at Blaugrana loanee João Félix, over his attitude.

Frontman Félix has of course seen his name take its place front and centre in the Spanish media headlines for several weeks now.

Unfortunately for the Portuguese, however, this has come for altogether less than positive reasons.

After enjoying a fine start to life in Catalunya following his summer arrival from Atlético Madrid, Félix has of late majorly struggled for form.

Such woes have culminated in fresh concerns over the attitude displayed by the former Benfica man, too, amid suggestions that Félix may simply not possess the required mental fortitude to make full use of his unquestionable talent.

One individual who appears to share such an opinion, meanwhile, comes in the form of the aforementioned Abelardo Fernández.

Fernández, for his part, spent eight years on Barcelona’s books, from 1994 to 2002.

Speaking in an interview with Movistar, as cited by Sport, earlier today, the one-time defender was in turn asked for his early impressions of the Catalans’ struggling loan star.

And Fernández was not shy in making clear his disappointment, pleading with Félix to showcase more ‘fight’ whilst on the pitch:

“The worst thing is not the mistakes that João Félix makes, but the attitude he shows after the mistake.

“It’s about standing still… that bad image he gives. You lose the ball, so go for it, fight for it!”

“He’s like a little mentally gone…”
