Former Barcelona star expected to be met with ‘historic boos’ during PSG clash

A former member of the attacking ranks at La Liga giants Barcelona is expected to be met with an altogether hostile reception in the club’s next outing.

That’s according to Diario Sport, who point towards Luís Figo as the player in question.

Word was forthcoming early this week that Portuguese icon Figo will for his part be in attendance at Wednesday’s Champions League showdown between Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain.

As much will mark the first time since all the way back in 2009 that the one-time Ballon d’Or winner will show his face at a home Blaugrana fixture.

Figo remains considered public enemy no.1 by large sections of the Barca fanbase, who have vowed never to forgive him for departing the club for arch rivals Real Madrid in the year 2000.

As part of his role as an ambassador for UEFA, though, the 52-year-old will take his place in the stands at Montjuïc this evening.

And as per Sport, as much is expected to spark a heavy backlash:

‘A heated night is looming off the pitch as well. UEFA usually places its ambassadors in the most visible areas of the stadium, and Figo’s presence will not go unnoticed. The booing could be historic and one of the biggest brawls Barça has experienced in these two years on Montjuïc.’
