Former Barcelona star critical of Hansi Flick after PSG defeat: ‘You can’t play like that’

A former member of the attacking ranks at La Liga giants Barcelona has moved to make clear his disappointment with the approach made use of by Blaugrana boss Hansi Flick in the club’s latest outing.

Barcelona were of course back in action on Wednesday night.

Shifting focus back towards matters on the continent, the Catalans played host to tournament holders Paris Saint-Germain, in the Champions League.

And when all was said and done, Barca saw their unbeaten start to the campaign brought to an end.

This came after PSG proved once more that they remain the team to beat, in recovering from a goal down to emerge 2-1 victors.

The visitors’ match-winning 2nd of the clash sparked widespread chatter across the world of football, after Luis Enrique’s troops took advantage of the high line made use of by Barcelona right through the 90th minute.

And one individual of the opinion that Hansi Flick and his staff made a mistake with this approach is none other than Thierry Henry.

Speaking as part of his role as a pundit for CBS Sports in the aftermath of last night’s matchup in Catalunya, ex-Blaugrana striker Henry explained:

“You can’t play in the Champions League with that high line, I’m sorry. When you play against big teams, you’re going to be exposed. Any single run can end in a goal . And that’s exactly what happened against PSG. We always mention it, but they didn’t want to change it.

“Sometimes coaches can be stubborn with their strategy, but in important matches it can be costly.”
