Former Barcelona coach attempting to lure Blaugrana star to La Liga rivals

A former member of the coaching staff at La Liga giants Barcelona is working hard behind the scenes, to convince a member of the Blaugrana’s goalkeeper ranks to join him at Elche.

That’s according to Diario Sport, who point towards Iñaki Peña as the player in question.

Shot-stopper Peña has of course long been linked with a departure from Catalunya’s capital.

After the Spaniard fell ever further down the pecking order in Hansi Flick’s squad following the arrival of Joan García this summer, Deco and co. swiftly kicked into gear a search for a new home for Peña.

A number of clubs from across Spain and beyond, in turn, have expressed a keen interest in the signature of the 26-year-old.

Recent days have seen a new frontrunner emerge in the Peña sweepstakes, in the form of newly-promoted Elche.

And as alluded to above, behind the Franjiverdes’ ongoing push is a one-time member of the coaching staff at Barcelona.

As per a report from Sport:

‘The club that is most excited to be able to count on Iñaki is Eder Sarabia’s Elche, who was Barça’s assistant coach in the time of Quique Setién. Sarabia is basing himself on the facts to seduce the goalkeeper to arrive on loan, after renewing his contract with Barça.’
