Florentino Pérez in fresh Barcelona-bribery accusation: ‘It’s not normal’

Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez has on Sunday sent shockwaves across the Spanish football landscape.

This comes by way of a round of comments regarding arch rivals Barcelona, and the ongoing ‘Negreira Case’.

The subject of Barcelona’s infamous court case has of course proven a prominent one in the media headlines in Spain since all the way back in 2023.

The Blaugrana, for their part, have maintained their innocence throughout, adamant that they have not broken any rules.

And yet, they have been formally charged by prosecutors, after being found guilty of paying out millions of euros to the vice-president of Spanish football’s refereeing committee, José María Enriquez Negreira.

No conclusion to the case appears to be in sight, but as alluded to above, on Sunday, Florentino Pérez weighed in with a fresh round of comments.

Speaking during an appearance in front of the media, as cited by Fabrizio Romano, Real Madrid’s beloved president sniped:

“It’s not normal for Barcelona to pay the vice-president of the referees more than €8m over 17 years, whatever the reason. It coincides, coincidentally, with Barcelona’s best sporting period…”
