Barcelona forward Ferran Torres confirms decision over future

Ferran Torres scored in Barcelona’s 5-3 defeat to Arsenal and discussed his future after the pre-season friendly against the Gunners.

The Spain international has been linked with a move away from Barcelona this summer, but the former Valencia player is clear on his future.

“The names are placed there by journalists. I have a contract here, I’m going to stay,” he said in words transcribed by Mundo Deportivo.

“I’m clear, I’m capable of playing for Barça. I don’t care what anyone says about me. I have to be calm, work as hard as anyone else because, in the end, the reward will come.

“I am my own biggest critic. Last season wasn’t good but it’s the one I’ve learnt the most from in my career. Those ups and downs I had are helping me to be stronger now.”

On attacking versatility

Torres, who played in a more central position at Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City, opened the door to playing in several attacking positions under Xavi.

“The more versatile I am, the more options I have to play. I can play on both flanks, up front or as a second striker. It’s good for me and for the team.”
