Fernando Torres announces ‘return to football’

Former Spain international striker Fernando Torres has announced on his social media channels that he will come out of retirement and return to action.

Torres who is now 37, posted the following message:

“I only understand life in one way: playing. That’s why I’ve decided to return,” it read with the hashtag ‘#vuelveelniño’, translated to #elniñoreturns’.

The former Atlético Madrid, Liverpool and Chelsea player says he will announce where he will be playing in three days’ time. “This Friday I will communicate where,” he said.

Torres retired from the game in August 2019 when playing at Sagan Tosu in Japan.

It remains to be seen whether Torres will in fact join a new club or sign a new sponsorship deal.
