European Super League is ‘not dead’, says Florentino Pérez

Speaking on the El Larguero radio program on Wednesday night, Real Madrid club president Florentino Pérez said the clubs that had announced their departure from the project “have not left” as “nobody has yet paid the penalisation fee for leaving”.

“I’m sad by what has happened with this [Super League]. We were working on it for 3 years.”

“We are going to keep working. We are looking for ways of getting this done. It would be a shame not to get it done.”

“We had it prepared but they went for us [UEFA], killed us with terrible aggression just before we launched. It was orchestrated, it surprised us all. I have never seen anything like it – insults, threats, as if we had killed someone, killed football.”

Perez also admitted “one of the English clubs were never really convinced of the project”.

“There was someone in the English six clubs who did not have much interest.”
