La Liga outfit Espanyol have this week closed a piece of transfer business which will no doubt bring a collective smile to the faces of the club’s fans the world over.
This comes amid confirmation that Roberto Fernández is set to stay put in Catalunya for the long-term.
Frontman Fernández for his part made the move to Espanyol back in January, on loan from Portuguese side SC Braga.
And the 22-year-old quickly set about establishing himself as a key member of Manolo González’s frontline.
All told, Fernández racked up 19 La Liga appearances, all but one from the off, chipping in with six important goals along the way.
Such production had since given rise to widespread claims that the Periquitos were keen on making the Spaniard’s return to his home country a permanent one.
And as alluded to above, if the latest word stemming from the media is anything to go by, then precisely as much now appears to be on the cards.
As per a report from transfer insider Fabrizio Romano:
‘Understand Espanyol have agreed deal to sign Roberto Fernández from Braga. Details being sorted right now ahead of contract signing in the next hours.’
