Erling Haaland responds to Messi-Ronaldo comparisons

Manchester City star Erling Haaland has this week moved to shut down chatter likening him to Barcelona and Real Madrid legends Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

This comes amid what has been nothing short of a spectacular opening to the campaign on the part of the Norwegian.

Across 13 appearances between the Premier League and Champions League, Haaland has racked up 17 goals.

His latest haul came this past weekend, when the former Borussia Dortmund man found the net twice in a 3-1 victory over Bournemtouth.

With such production having now spanned half a decade, and Haaland showing no signs of slowing down any time soon, inevitable chatter surrounding his place amongst the greatest attacking stars of the modern era has begun to spread.

Speaking during an exchange with the media ahead of facing off with former club Dortmund on Wednesday, the subject of comparisons between he and La Liga icons Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo was in turn put to Haaland himself.

The prolific frontman, though, made use of the opportunity to shut any such discourse down:

“No, not at all! No one can get close to them two, so no… I am just Erling, a Norwegian guy scoring goals. That won’t change.”
