Netherlands and AZ Alkmaar youngster Kees Smit has this week admitted that La Liga champions Barcelona are his ‘favourite club’.
This will no doubt come as music to the ears of those behind the scenes at the Spotify Camp Nou, amid long-standing transfer links between Barca and Smit.
A 19-year-old midfielder, Smit’s name returned to the forefront of the headlines in Catalunya’s capital early this week.
As much came upon Netherlands head coach Ronald Koeman drawing comparisons between the starlet and Blaugrana standout Pedri:
“I coached Pedri at Barcelona and I see things of him in Kees Smit. The turns, the use of both feet, the vision… it’s what I saw in Pedri back then.”
During his own exchange with the media on Tuesday, the subject of this comparison was therefore put to Smit himself.
And the Dutch international’s response has since turned heads.
This comes with Smit having informed ESPN (as cited by Diario AS) that:
“Before I was De Bruyne and now I’m Pedri (laughs)! Or Frenkie de Jong… I watch almost every Barcelona match. It’s simply my favourite club.”
