Former AC Milan and Netherlands star Marco van Basten has revealed his take that Club Brugge were denied a victory over Barcelona by way of some questionable officiating.
Specifically, the once-prolific goalscorer highlighted a late coming together between Wojciech Szczęsny and Romeo Vermant.
As much saw the latter challenge an under-pressure Szczęsny in the Barcelona penalty area late on.
After taking the ball back, Vermant went on to slot home into an empty net.
Upon VAR review, however, it was concluded that the attacker’s challenge was an unfair one, with the goal overruled and Barca awarded a free-kick as a result.
And safe to say, the aforementioned Marco van Basten is of the opinion that this was the wrong call…
Speaking as part of his role as a pundit post-match on Wednesday, the 61-year-old fumed:
“Club Brugge were robbed tonight, their 4th goal should actually stand! He doesn’t make a foul on Szczęsny. He didn’t even touch him. It’s Szczęsny himself who made it look like a foul, but it wasn’t a foul.”
