Done deal: Barcelona youngster joins Como

La Liga giants Barcelona have this week agreed to the sale of a member of the club’s defensive ranks.

This comes amid confirmation of Andrés Cuenca preparing to take his talents to Italy, with high-flying Serie A outfit Como.

Cuenca, for his part, is an 18-year-old stopper, who chiefly lines out at the heart of defence.

The youngster has spent the season to date plying his trade on the books of Barca Atlètic, the Blaugrana’s reserve outfit.

Despite his tender years, Cuenca is a regular for Spain at U20 level, widely considered one of the country’s standout up-and-coming talents.

In turn, it may come as something of a surprise to learn of the brass at the Camp Nou having given the green light to his immediate departure.

As confirmed by market insider Fabrizio Romano:

‘Deal sealed: Como sign Andrés Cuenca from Barcelona on permanent deal +20% sell-on clause. Cuenca will go immediately on loan to Sporting Gijon from Como.’
