Diego Simeone to extend stay at Atlético Madrid

Atlético Madrid and Diego Simeone are in talks over extending the Argentine coach’s contract, report Marca. Natalia Simeone, Simeone’s sister and agent, is at the Cívitas Metropolitano today to meet with club CEO Miguel Ángel Gil Marín over a contract renewal.

Simeone’s current deal expires in June 2024 and the club is offering another three years, until 2027, but Simeone would be happy to sign for two, per the report. An agreement between the parties is expected to be reached in the next few days.

This is not the first time that Natalia Simeone and Atlético’s CEO have met, as the first meeting took place last Tuesday, with the team in Glasgow to play against Celtic in the Champions League.

Simeone – understanding the club’s economic situation – is willing to make an effort to reduce his salary considerably. Negotiations are on the right track and a new deal could see him stay at the club for 14 years, which would make him not only the most successful coach in Atlético’s history but also the longest-serving.
