Atlético Madrid head coach Diego Simeone has on Saturday secured for himself an altogether noteworthy piece of Spanish football history.
This comes amid confirmation that the Argentine has equalled the record for the most-ever wins by a single manager in La Liga.
Atlético were back in action earlier today, making the trip to Valencia for a meeting with Levante. The Rojiblancos headed into proceedings amid a fine recent stretch of form, fresh off six consecutive league wins.
And when all was said and done, Atléti went on to keep alive and well their blistering run of results, courtesy of a 2-0 triumph.
In the process, the capital outfit leapfrogged reigning La Liga title holders Barcelona to the top of the table. And as alluded to above, it also proved an evening to remember for Diego Simeone from an individual standpoint.
As revealed by statisticians Opta:
‘Diego Pablo Simeone has won 344 of the 565 matches he has managed in LaLiga (123D 98L). He has equalled Luis Aragonés (344 in 756 matches) as the manager with the most victories in the entire history of the competition.’
