Atlético Madrid head coach Diego Simeone has revealed his take that the Rojiblancos are underdogs heading into their Champions League tie with Tottenham Hotspur.
Atlético and Spurs are of course primed to lock horns on the continent in 24 hours’ time.
In the first of a two-legged Champions League tie, the two sides will face off at the Metropolitano on Tuesday night.
The visitors head into the matchup in the midst of a domestic crisis, just a point clear of the Premier League relegation zone.
With Atléti fresh off booking their spot in the final of the Copa del Rey at the expense of Barcelona, the Spanish heavyweights have in turn been widely labelled as favourites to advance beyond Tottenham.
As alluded to above, though, quick to contest such a viewpoint on Monday was none other than Diego Simeone.
Speaking during his pre-match press conference, Atlético’s headmaster revealed his take that:
“We are not favourites vs Spurs. Remember, Tottenham came 4th in the league phase. We came through the play-offs. It’s clear that we are not favourites.”
