Real Madrid head coach Xabi Alonso has this weekend moved to reveal his delight with a member of the club’s summer recruitment list.
The player in question? Álvaro Carreras.
Defender Carreras is for his part fresh off another fine showing in Real Madrid colours.
En route to Los Blancos’ 2-1 downing of RCD Mallorca on Saturday night, the 22-year-old was entrusted from the off once more.
And Carreras went on to fully justify his inclusion, courtesy of a superb showing from his berth at left-back.
As much added to what has been a stellar start to life for the summer arrival in Madrid, who has now notched starts in all three of Real’s fixtures to date this season.
And one individual on whom such excellence has not been at all lost is the aforementioned Xabi Alonso.
Drawn on Carreras’ form during his post-match press conference on Saturday night, the Spanish tactician made use of the opportunity to wax lyrical about his defensive star:
“I scouted Carreras closely before we signed him, and I really wanted him. His adaptation has been extraordinary, he does almost everything well.
“You expect someone who knows the club to adapt well, but I didn’t expect this much!”
