Dest vs Araujo: Barcelona’s right-back plans for next season revealed

An insight into the plans of the powers that be at Spanish giants Barcelona for the right-hand side of the club’s backline has today been provided.

The info comes courtesy of Marca, who point towards a current member of the Blaugrana loan army as likely to be afforded a chance to impress back in Catalunya next season.

The player in question? Julián Araujo.

Stopper Araujo has spent the season to date on loan at Las Palmas, where he has impressed en route to 17 La Liga appearances.

And as much has not gone unnoticed at his parent club, who remain on the lookout for fresh blood at right-back owing to the uncertain futures of both Sergi Roberto, and João Cancelo.

As a result, Deco and co. are ‘seriously considering incorporating him into the first team’ for the 2024/25 campaign.

On the other hand, another full-back who will almost certainly not be making his way back to base in Catalunya’s capital this summer, is Sergiño Dest.

Also enjoying a fruitful stint away from Barcelona at present, United States international Dest is expected to be signed outright by Dutch giants PSV Eindhoven, who boast an option to buy as part of his loan deal.

And as much would come as a welcome boost to a Blaugrana outfit to have long decided that the 23-year-old does not feature in the club’s long-term plans.
