A member of the defensive ranks at La Liga giants Real Madrid has come in for widespread praise across Europe over the last 24 hours.
This comes owing to his showing in Los Blancos’ meeting with Olympique Marseille.
Real Madrid of course kicked their continental campaign into gear yesterday evening, welcoming French outfit Marseille to Spain’s capital for a Champions League clash.
When all was said and done in a hard-fought affair, Xabi Alonso’s troops secured a 2-1 triumph, courtesy of a Kylian Mbappé brace.
As alluded to above, though, with the dust having now settled on the fixture, it is another member of Real’s squad who is instead being singled out for more widespread adulation than any other.
The individual in question? Álvaro Carreras.
Summer signing Carreras is for his part fresh off nothing short of a superb start to life in the colours of Los Merengues.
Looking entirely unfazed by the pressure which comes along with lining out for one of the game’s very biggest clubs, the 22-year-old has dazzled from his berth at left-back.
After several standout showings in La Liga, though, Carreras saved his best to date for Tuesday night.
Resolute in his defending and relenteless in his pushes forward, the former Benfica talent produced a complete full-back performance against Marseille.
And safe to say, such endeavours have not gone unnoticed amongst fans, pundits or the media, amid deserved praise for a player who looks set to prove himself a brilliant signing for Real Madrid.
