‘Deserves more bench than Modrić’ – Former Real Madrid star hits out at Aurélien Tchouaméni

Real Madrid star Aurélien Tchouaméni has today come in for some altogether harsh criticism, on the part of a former member of the Blancos’ midfield ranks.

As much comes on the back of the Frenchman’s display in Real Madrid’s meeting with Sevilla on Sunday.

Carlo Ancelotti’s troops are of course fresh off extending their advantage atop the La Liga table, owing to what came as a hard-fought 1-0 downing of Quique’s Sevilla.

Luka Modrić proved himself the star of the show, emerging from the bench inside the closing 20 minutes of proceedings to drive home a brilliant winner from outside the penalty area.

And as much proved the latest evidence for a one-time Blancos talent that Modrić is deserving of more consistent playing time in Madrid.

Not only that, but it has been suggested that as much should come at the direct expense of Aurélien Tchouaméni.

Speaking as part of his punditry role for Movistar Plus this week, Álvaro Benito launched a scathing attack on France international Tchouaméni.

Labelling the 24-year-old ‘the most inconsequential player’ in Carlo Ancelotti’s squad, Benito – who was on the books of Real from 1991 all the way through to 2002 – ranted:

“Tchouaméni deserves more bench than Modric.”

“He returned to play in his position and he seems to me to be the most inconsequential player in Real Madrid.”

“After two seasons at the club, I still don’t dare say what his virtues are. I have to be demanding with a Madrid starting player.”
