Real Madrid legend Cristiano Ronaldo has on Wednesday put rivalries to one side, to send a classy message of well wishes the way of Barcelona icon Lionel Messi.
Veteran frontman Messi is of course fresh off a special night in the colours of his beloved Argentina.
Called up for one final appearance for the Albiceleste, the 39-year-old was afforded a tribute befitting the status of arguably the greatest player in football history.
En route to a 3-0 friendly victory over Benin, Messi even managed to play a direct hand in all three of his country’s goals.
Messages of congratulations and appreciation have since come pouring in for the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner, on the part of fans, the media, pundits and fellow players alike.
And as alluded to above, adding his name to this list of well-wishers on Wednesday was none other than Cristiano Ronaldo. In a post on his official Instagram account, Ronaldo, amid a tumultuous period of his own on the international front, wrote:
“Leo, so many years defending your country and a story that will live on forever. You have all my respect for everything you’ve achieved with Argentina. A hug.”
