Former Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo has this weekend indirectly confirmed that he does not feel as though Lamine Yamal should be in the running for the Ballon d’Or.
The subject of the Ballon d’Or has of course returned to the forefront of the headlines across Europe over the last 48 hours.
This comes after the two leading contenders to be named world football’s best locked horns on the international front.
And when all was said and done, it was the aforementioned Lamine Yamal and Spain who had the last laugh in a 5-4 Nations League victory over Ousmane Dembélé’s France.
Their triumph means that La Roja have booked a finale showdown with Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal on Sunday.
And as alluded to above, on the eve of the clash, the 40-year-old has turned heads…
This comes after Ronaldo appeared to throw his backing behind Ousmane Dembélé to lift the Ballon d’Or, whilst ruling the likes of Lamine Yamal and Raphinha out:
“For me, whoever wins the Ballon d’Or must be a player who won the Champions League. I think this award has lost its value.”
