Could Zinedine Zidane return to replace Xabi Alonso at Real Madrid?

An insight into the chances of Zinedine Zidane returning to take up the managerial reins at La Liga giants Real Madrid has this week been forthcoming online.

This of course comes amid mounting speculation surrounding the future of Xabi Alonso.

Just months on from his arrival on the bench in Spain’s capital, pressure is already beginning to mount on the shoulders of ex-midfielder Alonso.

Alongside a concerning string of recent results have come accusations of Los Blancos’ players looking disinterested and frankly unmotivated on the pitch.

Should Alonso not manage to turn things around soon, a drastic call could in turn be made by Florentino Pérez and co.

With as much in mind, a whole host of tacticians have in turn been tipped as potential successors to Alonso.

One such name comes in the form of Zinedine Zidane, whom it has been suggested could very well be sought out once again by the Santiago Bernabéu hierarchy over the weeks ahead.

And on Tuesday, an insight into this situation has been provided.

The info comes courtesy of The Athletic, who report that:

‘Sources at Madrid, who are well connected to the board, also point out the confidence and affection that Perez has for Zinedine Zidane. However, it is unclear whether a move would be made for him.’

It is also noted that ‘sources close to the 53-year-old’ have already spoken of Zidane’s desire to take over as manager of the French national team.
