A member of the defensive ranks at La Liga giants Barcelona has been pencilled in to undergo surgery next week.
As much was on Friday confirmed by the Blaugrana themselves, who point towards Gerard Martín as the player in question.
Left-back Martín for his part suffered a setback on the fitness front earlier this week.
En route to Spain’s opening day victory over Slovakia at the U21 European Championships, the Barcelona man was forced into a premature departure from proceedings.
This came owing to a heavy blow to his right hand.
Ensuing medical tests confirmed that Martín had suffered a dislocation, released from international duty as a result.
And as alluded to above, on Friday, Barcelona have provided an update on the situation.
As per a statement across the social media platforms of the Catalan outfit, their backup left-back is set for an incoming spell on the sidelines, ahead of undergoing surgery early next week:
‘Gerard Martín has suffered a dislocation at the base of the fifth metacarpal in his right hand and will undergo surgery this Tuesday, performed by Dr. Mir under the supervision of the Club’s Medical Services. An update will be provided after the procedure.’
