Celta Vigo manager Eduardo Coudet: “It was an emotional game for several players.”

Celta Vigo manager Eduardo Coudet lamented his side’s 2-0 loss to Valencia in the final league game of the season, citing that emotions were running high within the squad.

Speaking to the press after the defeat, as transcribed by Marca, Coudet stated: “It wasn’t an easy game for us due to the limitations that we had. It was also a very emotional game. We knew that several players are saying goodbye to their team-mates. They knew it was their last game and it’s not easy playing football like that either.”

One such player is Nolito, who was given the armband for the game. Coudet remarked on the gesture: “It was about showing him our respect and gratitude. At least half of the team was clear that they were not going to continue. It left us in a difficult situation to play football.”

Celta finished the 2021/22 La Liga season in 11th place on 46 points.

Looking towards the future, Coudet said: “We have to turn the page and prepare for what’s to come. The club has expectations of putting together a squad with more resources, and that will surely help us.”

“When the club finishes organizing the pre-season, we will program everything. Right now there is no one in charge of assembling the squad. I hope things will turn out for the best next year but at the moment it’s very difficult to talk about what’s coming.”
