Casemiro on Champions League final: “These are historic matches.”

In an interview with El País, Real Madrid midfielder Casemiro spoke about how his relationship with manager Carlo Ancelotti has evolved. The Brazilian was a fringe player at the Santiago Bernabéu during Ancelotti’s first spell in charge, but this time around he is an indispensable starter.

“There is a lot of respect between us, even if he chooses someone else. During his first stint, he preferred others because he had high quality players. I respect him. This year, I have enjoyed working with him a lot and I’m there to help,” Casemiro said.

The Brazilian emphasised that Madrid’s Champions League run this season is already etched into club history.

“These are historic matches. Of course, if you don’t win the title, you leave with the feeling that we didn’t get what we wanted. But the nights don’t go away, they’re in the history of the club.”
