Carlo Ancelotti outlines Real Madrid’s transfer plans following David Alaba injury

An update on Real Madrid’s plans for the upcoming January transfer window has been provided today by head coach Carlo Ancelotti.

Defender David Alaba is expected to miss the rest of the 2023-24 campaign and next summer’s European Championship, after rupturing the anterior crucial ligament in his left knee last weekend. The centre-back is expected to be sidelined for eight months, which has sparked rumours that Los Blancos will look to sign a replacement in the upcoming winter transfer market.

The Austrian international sustained the injury in 4-1 win against Villarreal on Sunday. The player was subsequently taken off in the 35th minute and was helped off the pitch by the medical team.

As reported by Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Ancelotti is yet to rule out the prospect of signing a replacement in January.

He said: “If there’s a chance to sign a good player for Real Madrid and to help for this season, we will make it happen.

“I can’t say no… we spoke internally about the possibility of new signing.

“We will take our time. No rush. The window will close on January 31. We are thinking about that.”
