Carlo Ancelotti and Eduardo Camavinga give thoughts on Real Madrid’s win over Athletic Club

Speaking after Real Madrid’s 2-0 win over Athletic Club on Sunday night, Carlo Ancelotti gave his thoughts to the media on the victory at San Mamés.

“I want to highlight Camavinga’s performance… he was spectacular,” Ancelotti said post-match in words reported by Marca.

“We were not fantastic, but we played well. Defensively we were better, and more compact tonight.

“We need all the players to be motivated and focused because we play a game every three days. We need all of them.”

On Karim Benzema

“Karim is back. He offers us a lot and we are very satisfied with him.”

Modrić and Kroos on the bench

“I want the other players to be motivated. Ceballos and Asensio deserved to play.

“We didn’t have much time to prepare for this game. We analysed our performances with videos and the players got the message.

“Modrić has trained very well this week and could have started tonight but I preferred not to take the risk. Kroos needed some rest.”

Camavinga’s thoughts

Eduardo Camavinga was excellent on the night, shining in a deeper midfield role in place of Aurélien Tchouaméni.

“We knew it would be a tough game. They’re a good team. We’re very happy with the win… it’s a good win.

“I want us to win every game, but sometimes it doesn’t happen (on loss to Villarreal).”
