Bundesliga star called to replace Barcelona midfielder in Spain squad

The Spanish national team have announced their chosen replacement for Barcelona star Gavi for the September international break.

Spain boss Luis de la Fuente was for his part forced into a last-minute alteration to his latest squad this week.

As much came after the aforementioned Gavi was forced to pull out of La Roja’s ranks, owing to a training ground injury suffered at the Ciutat Esportiva.

This left a space in Da la Fuente’s engine room ranks, ahead of next month’s World Cup qualifying double-header against Bulgaria and Turkey.

And as alluded to above, the man chosen to step in for Gavi has now been officially announced.

As per a statement across the website and social media platforms of the RFEF:

‘Aleix García has been added to the Spain squad. The Bayer Leverkusen midfielder will face the qualifying matches for the 2026 World Cup.’

Former Girona standout García has for his part featured from the off in both of Bayer Leverkusen’s Bundesliga fixtures to open the campaign.
